2009 Vintage Motorcycle Show Results
Who would’ve thought that checking out old bikes would hold any interest for me?! I was pleasantly surprised that there were more to these antiquated machines than meets the eye.
For those who missed it, A&S Powersports held their annual Vintage Motorcycle Show last month on September 26th. I had the opportunity to meet ‘n greet the owners of these vintage beasts as they started rolling in. Some of them were preserved in their rustic (and rusty) charms while others maintained their youth, really old but still running and used as daily riders.
As I snapped away with my camera and mingled, I was entertained by the personal history and stories of these bikes and their owners. These led me to see the bikes in a new light, kind of like Herby! They have their own personalities and quirks and features that differs made them endearing.
There were various bikes from Britain, Germany, Italy, Japanese, American and even scooters! Despite the sweltering heat, we kept things cool by providing free sodas, a fantastic BBQ hosted by the River City Beamers, and had free raffle give aways throughout the day!
Did I mention that we had the legendary Clement Salvadori (Rider Magazine writer) honor us with his presence? You betcha! His presentation “Forty Years: 1945 – 1985 of Interesting, Dull, and Sometimes Forgettable Motorcycles” was fun and humorous. Heck, the title said it all! He was also our judge, picking bikes based on their unusuality. Here are the results of our winners along with our People’s Choice Awards (bikes picked by the crowd).
